Historic lakeside hotel with spa, golf, and pet-friendly stays

Spa & Wellness Facilities

The hotel's spa is located in the historic Walton Hall on its own private island. Facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and a fitness centre. Golf can be booked at the neighbouring Waterton Park Golf Club.

Location & Grounds

The hotel sits on a 26-acre lake estate with grounds that include a private island. It is a 10-minute drive from the M1 and 30 minutes from Leeds and Sheffield. The Peak District National Park is a 40-minute drive away, and Wakefield city center is a short drive.

“In my opinion, the historic charm of this lakeside hotel is undeniable, set within a sprawling estate that provides a uniquely scenic backdrop near Wakefield. While I appreciate its pet-friendly accommodations and proximity to local attractions, the blend of Georgian architecture with modern amenities makes it suitable for both families and corporate guests. Though some aspects require attention, the overall setting and available facilities, including the spa and private fishing opportunities, create a distinctive experience.”

private hot tubs sparkling afternoon tea outdoor walks
The spa afternoon was lovely. I enjoyed the sparkling afternoon tea before my session (especially the Prosecco!). There were four outdoor hot tubs, each private for thirty minutes, which worked well. I definitely plan to return when the weather is warmer to enjoy the walks.
I found it a little difficult to find enough available seating around the pool during busy times.

uneven flags hard beds
I attended a wedding recently and the building's accessibility was certainly a concern. I understand a lift is absent in the old hall. I do not understand its absence in the main building. The uneven stone flags on the bridge and path leading to the hall were difficult to navigate in a wheelchair. The short, bowed ramp at the side steps felt unsafe and anxiety-inducing to use! The beds were too hard, causing me pain each morning.

The grounds were peaceful. The staff ensured fair use of the hot tub.
I found someone else's underwear on the floor beside the bed. The carpets had not been vacuumed, the room was dirty, and the furniture was worn, also stained. This was disgusting.
